A How-to Guide on How to Prepare for the First 100 Days of Trump’s Presidency

Understanding the Immediate Challenges

There is little time left for “buyer’s remorse” if you voted for Trump as he takes office in four weeks and one day from the date of this article. President-elect Trump and his allies have prepared various plans for his first 100 days, including significant policy changes that could reshape immigration, health care, reproductive rights, and federal funding to schools. His administration has already begun working on implementation strategies for these changes.

Below are petitions you can sign to resist the taking away of our rights and democracy.

Campaign Actions You Can Support and Their Importance

  1. Reproductive Rights Protection

Despite Trump’s attempts to distance himself from Project 2025, both his official platform and the project’s proposals share key policies that threaten reproductive rights. The campaign above focuses on preventing attacks on medication abortion, protecting birth control access, and stopping potential nationwide abortion restrictions through the misuse of the 1873 Comstock Act.

  1. Immigration Rights Protection

Campaign Link: “Stop the Trump Administration: No Mass Deportations”

This campaign addresses Trump’s immediate plans to close the U.S. border with Mexico and launch what would be the largest domestic deportation operation in American history.

Implementing mass deportations would cost billions of dollars and could dramatically impact the economy, particularly in industries such as construction, hospitality, and agriculture. A mass deportation program would require an unprecedented increase in manpower to arrest and deport millions of people annually.

  1. Project 2025 Opposition

Campaign Link: “Stop Project 2025”

This comprehensive campaign confronts Project 2025’s broad threats to civil rights. The initiative details how the project would impact immigrant families through mass deportations, deny healthcare access to transgender individuals, strip away abortion rights, and potentially punish political dissent.

The ACLU has developed a detailed roadmap to fight back point-by-point and issue-by-issue, working proactively in state legislatures and courts nationwide to prevent this agenda from becoming reality.

  1. Immigration Detention Reform

Campaign Link: “Shut Down the ICE Detention Machine”

This campaign addresses the critical issue of immigration detention, which will be a key component of Trump’s deportation agenda. The initiative highlights that 95% of deaths in detention from 2017-2021 were preventable with appropriate medical care. The campaign emphasizes that these facilities, often run by private prison corporations, have poor conditions, understaffing, and serious safety issues.

  1. Reproductive Healthcare Access

Campaign Link: “Restore Our Rights: Reproductive Freedom NOW”

This campaign responds to the post-Roe landscape where abortion bans have been enacted across multiple states. It addresses current threats to medication abortion, emergency care, birth control, and IVF. The initiative emphasizes that the majority of Americans support legal abortion and seeks to pass federal legislation safeguarding reproductive freedom while reforming the filibuster to secure these rights.

Why Immediate Action is Important

These campaigns represent a coordinated response to protect civil liberties during Trump’s first 100 days. Both Planned Parenthood and the ACLU have developed comprehensive strategies including litigation, legislative advocacy, and public mobilization to defend against potential threats to civil rights and liberties.

By taking action now through the campaigns and initiatives outlined above, we can help build the necessary legal, legislative, and grassroots infrastructure to protect civil liberties before Trump takes office. This proactive approach is essential, as waiting until policies are already being implemented could mean fighting an uphill battle against established executive orders and legislation.
